The Cuban Revolution was a time of great upheaval and change on the island of Cuba. It was a time when the people of Cuba rose up against the repressive regime of Fulgencio Batista and fought for a better future for themselves and their country.

The Cuban Revolution was led by a man named Fidel Castro. Fidel Castro was a Cuban revolutionary and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and as the President of the Council of State of Cuba from 1976 to 2008.

Fidel Castro was born in 1926 in Biran, Cuba. His father, Angel Castro, was a wealthy landowner who had served in the Cuban War of Independence. Fidel Castro’s mother, Lina Ruz, was a housewife.

Fidel Castro was educated at a Jesuit school and later attended the University of Havana, where he studied law. After graduating from university, Fidel Castro became a lawyer.

In 1952, Fulgencio Batista, the President of Cuba, staged a coup and took control of the Cuban government. Batista was a brutal dictator who ruled Cuba with an iron fist. He suppressed any dissent and brutally oppressed the Cuban people.

In 1953, Fidel Castro and his brother Raul, along with a group of other Cuban revolutionaries, attacked the Moncada Barracks, a military installation in Santiago de Cuba. The attack was unsuccessful and Fidel Castro was arrested and imprisoned.

While in prison, Fidel Castro wrote a letter called “History Will Absolve Me”. In this letter, Fidel Castro laid out his vision for a new Cuba, free from oppression and injustice.

After his release from prison, Fidel Castro went into exile in Mexico. There, he met a young Argentine doctor named Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Together, they planned the return to Cuba to overthrow the Batista regime.

On December 2, 1956, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and a group of 82 other men landed in Cuba aboard the yacht Granma. They had intended to start a revolution, but they were quickly captured by Batista’s forces. Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were both imprisoned.

However, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara both escaped from prison and went into hiding in the mountains of Cuba. They began to build up a rebel army, made up of peasants and workers, to fight against Batista’s forces.
